El turismo es la alternativa más lógica a menos de cien kilómetros de uno de los polos turísticos más importantes del mundo: Cancún y la Riviera Maya. El desarrollo sustentable, a través del turismo alternativo, encuentra en este rincón de la península un gran recibimiento por parte de grupos emprendedores de las comunidades rurales que buscan una mejor calidad de vida y la conservación de su hábitat y cultura.
El turismo alternativo está concebido como complemento a las actividades productivas tradicionales, de manera que éstas no sean tan agresivas por su volumen y que las economías locales no dependan de una sola actividad.
Kanché AC trabaja para la consolidación de la Red Comunitaria de Ecoturismo Puerta Verde. Durante 5 años se ha llevado a cabo el acompañamiento y la asesoría técnica de los grupos que la conforman, desde prestadores de servicios turísticos hasta productores de artesanías y productos de gastronomía tradicional o medicina natural.
Actualmente Kanché trabaja con éstos y otros grupos que están empezando a organizar sus esfuerzos e ideas para alcanzar nuevos objetivos de desarrollo y mejora de su calidad de vida.

Alternative Tourism
Tourism is the most logical option being less than one hundred kilometers from one of the most important tourist poles of the world: Cancún and the Mayan Riviera. Sustainable development, through alternative tourism, is greatly welcomed in this corner of the peninsula by the rural communities’ entrepreneur groups that seek a better quality of life and the conservation of their habitat and culture.
Alternative tourism is conceived as a compliment to traditional productive activities so that these are less aggressive in volume, and allows diversification and strengthening of the local economies.
During the past five years, the members of Kanché AC have been working with the communities and their groups. Five years of technical support and assistance towards training and fortifying community groups.
Most of the local companies are part of the Puerta Verde Community Based Alternative Tourism Network.
Kanché works with 14 cooperatives from rural communities in the north of the Yucatan Peninsula. 12 of them are in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas (Quintana Roo) and 2 are in the municipality of Valladolid (Yucatan).
